From the SLT s Desk Dear parents, On Feb 18, a team of inspectors from Sharjah Private Education Sector (SPEA) has visited the school to measure the progress that the school has made since their last inspection. The judgment of improvement followed a scale of 3 levels (limited/ Satisfactory/ Advanced). I am delighted to announce to you that our school s overall improvement was officially judged as ADVANCED. This rating could not be achieved without the hard work of the teachers, administrative team, leaders, parents and students. We pride ourselves with this big achievement as we continue thriving on this improvement journey. Our ambitions are to continue leading on this journey to provide the best education for ASCS students; and to strive with great determination to improve every aspect of school life. The achievement of every student is at the heart of our school improvement plan and it is clear that we have made advanced progress due to the hard work and commitment of our staff and students, and the great support of our parents. إجراءات السالمة و الوقاية في المدرسة حرصت المدرسة على رفع إجراءات السالمة والوقاية ضد تفشي فيروس كرونا 19- منذ بداية انتشاره حيث قامت المدرسة باتخاذ العديد من اإلجراءات االحترازية وقامت بتوجيه جميع العاملين والطالب واألهالي بحماية أنفسهم والبقاء آمنين من خالل اتخاذ تدابير وقائية ومراقبة أي من األعراض وكيفية الوقاية منها ونشر الوعي والتثقيف لدي الجميع والبقاء في المنزل واالبتعاد عن التجمعات للحد من االختالط لتفادي اإلصابة بالفيروس 2

كما قامت المدرسة بتعقيم المبنى بشكل كامل وتم تعقيم جميع االثاث واألدوات التعليمية والمدرسية تعقيما عميقا باإلضافة لتعقيم الحافالت المدرسية والمنطقة األلعاب الداخلية والخارجية وتم تقليل عدد العاملين في المدرسة ألقل عدد ممكن وتم تفعيل عملية العمل عن بعد وتطبيق إجراءات أخرى للتأكد من عدم انتشار الفيروس حيث تم اغالق األقسام المعقمة ومنع دخول أي شخص لهذه األقسام او الصفوف لتجنب نشر العدوى مرة أخرى باإلضافة لفحص جميع العاملين والموظفين والزائرين عند دخولهم للمدرسة. وتعقيم االيدي قبل دخولهم مبنى المدرسة.. 3

كما نشرت المدرسة الوسائل التثقيفية حول فيروس كورونا المستجد كوفيد 19 وقامت بتثقيف للعاملين والموظفين وتم تدريب سائقي الحافالت المدرسية على طرق التعقيم الصحيحة وزيادة الوعي والثقافة الصحية لموظفي االمن والصيانة لضمان عدم نشر العدوى باإلضافة لتدريب جميع العاملين في قسم النظافة على طرق التعقيم والتنظيف للمبنى المدرسي. 4

ASCS Al-Layyah s Learning Journey into Online Teaching By Safiyyah Kent, Vice Principal In response to the threats of infection due to the COVID-19 outbreak worldwide, ASCS AlLayyah took swift steps to transition to an online learning model, in accordance with SPEA directives. Our motto was keep it simple we wanted to make sure that our young learners, their parents and our teachers would be able to easily access online learning platforms and execute learning tasks with minimal difficulty. Based on early predictions, we estimated that online learning would last for about 2 weeks, so we planned to use Class Dojo for those first weeks because it was something all of our parents had experience with. It was enough to maintain continuity until the start of term 3. However, after our first week of online learning, it became apparent that our online learning journey would be longer than anticipated, possibly for a month or more, and so we began to execute our Plan B. We decided to make sure that all students and parents had access to online classrooms via Microsoft Teams and start live sessions for G1-4 beginning the week of April 5. Key strategies to ensure a successful online learning experience for all included maintaining contact with parents and taking their feedback. We set up a Hotline for parent needs, and responded as quickly as possible to parent queries. The senior leadership team met online daily to review feedback from teachers, students and parents, and make needed adjustments in a timely manner. Our overriding goal has been to facilitate the process as much as possible for students and parents, and to facilitate uninterrupted student learning. As they say, every dark cloud has a silver lining! Through this difficult worldwide pandemic, we have seen our students, staff and parents exhibit a great sense of community and team spirit. All of them are heroes during this challenging time. We have very resilient and dedicated students and parents. Our parents have given us amazing feedback and have shown their dedication to support their child s learning. Our teachers are extremely capable. They are doing an extraordinary job adapting to new circumstances and delivering high quality online learning opportunities. 5

Even though all schools embarking on online learning have experienced difficulties and challenges, our stakeholders (teachers, parents, students, staff) have risen to the challenge and maintained a great sense of teamwork and collaborative spirit in addressing these challenges. Finally, this challenge has showed that BEAM schools are equipped world class tools which can accommodate online learning. Thank you to all of our online community members parents, teachers, students and staff who have all joined hands to ensure that we meet our #1 priority educating our students. 6

الدروس املستفادة من أزمة كوروان أن يستشعر اإلنسان نعم هللا عليه ويتفكر في آالئه ويحمدها قبل زوالها ف إن ذلك سبب لحفظ النعم من الزوال. أن قدرة هللا تعالى فوق قدرة كل شيء ف إنه سبحانه ق ادر أن يسلط على عباده داء فتاكا ال ي رى بالعين المجردة ويعجزهم على التغلب عليه. يبقى علم اإلنسان محدودا مهما بلغ من العلم والتطور فهو مهما علم من األمور جاهل بغيرها { وما أوتيتم من العلم إال ق ليال}. أن نحرص على التوكل على هللا سبحانه وتعالى مع األخذ باألسباب في دفع هذا الوباء اتباعا للتوجيهات النبوية ف اتخاذ اإلنسان االحتياطات الالزمة في سبيل اجتناب المرض أهم من أن يهمل ثم يسعى جاهد ا لعالج نفسه منه يجب علينا االتزام بالتعليمات الصادرة عن الجهات الحكومية المختصة ويدخل ذلك في طاعة ولي األمر الذي أمرنا هللا عزوجل ونحن تحت قيادة حكيمة يسعى فيها والة أمرنا دائما للحف اظ على أرواحنا وراحتنا وهم األدرى بكيفية التعامل مع هذا الوباء ومراعاة للمصلحة العامة في وق اية المجتمع من هذا الوباء. على العبد أن يرضى بقضاء هللا وقدره خيره وشره ويتجنب التسخط على أقداره المؤلمة ويسلك سبيل المؤمنين الصابرين عند حدوث البالء والمحن. خطورة نشر الشائعات المغرضة واألخبار الملفقة حول هذا الوباء في وسائل التواصل االجتماعي فينبغي الحذر من تداول المق اطع المنتشرة لغير المختصين في كيفية التعامل مع هذا الوباء والرجوع في ذلك كله إلى الجهات المختصة. نسأل هللا الرحيم أن يدفع عنا هذا الوابء وأن يرمحنا برمحته اليت وسعت كل شيء 9

How to keep yourself fit at home To get your heart pumping you need to have a cardiovascular exercise in the morning. The cardiovascular exercises will get your heart pumping, balances blood flow and also improves your air intake. Jogging, cycling, brisk walking or aerobics can be the starting point. In case you can t go outside for a warm up you can do the same at home. Everyone needs to stay fit! Whether you are overweight or underweight it doesn t matter. Just 10 to 20 minutes every day can save you from a lot of deadly life threatening diseases. That s all the amount of time you need to allocate to move your muscles and get you heart to beat. You can do the following exercises to help you to be fit in good condition Jump Squats:Begin with Jump squats, for which you would not require your dumbbells. Squat down and push yourself up by jumping. You need to land back on your feet and lower into a squat again. Repeat the same process for 30 seconds. To have a good balance you can hold your fists tight in front of you. Jackknife:Lie flat on your back. You can place a rolled up towel under your lower back for support. Stretch out your arms, above your head and tighten your abdominal muscles. Then lift up your legs and arms together and try to touch them above your body. 11

Push-up and Side Plank:Do a regular pushup with hands placed wider than the shoulders and your legs straightened behind you. Pull in your abdominal muscles and keep your body in a straight line as you continue the pushups. As you complete each push up, bring your body to the side and do a side plank. Lunges with Triceps Kickback:Stand straight with the dumbbells in your hands. Place your right leg behind you and bend your knee almost toward the floor. Bend the left knee in front of you; place your elbows close to your body with bent arms. After these short exercises routine, you can cool down the body to make it ready for a long day. By concentrating on every part of the body, you will reap great results in just a few days. Enjoy these refreshing exercises immediately after you wake up. 12

Ramadan is a holy month for all Muslims and awaited by everyone all around the world. With the arrival of Ramadan month, we discover new ideas to embellish our homes and streets commemorating this special time. I have chosen a simple sample for Ramadan decoration that anyone can do at home with simple materials. Even kids, with a little help, can surprise you with their fabulous results! Steps: 1- Print the provided template on A4 paper 2- Cut it using the scissor 3- Trace the shape on the colored cardboard or construction paper 4- Take out using the scissor the places for the glass from your lantern 5- At the backside, begin to glue stripes of colored tissue papers to cover that place. 6- Begin to decorate your lantern using the decoration materials like (beads, writing your family names, pompoms, yarn etc) 7- Make as much as space allows. Helping My Child with E- Learning Noha Shaaban, Inclusion Leader, ASCS-Layyah Quick Reminders It is a new learning experience for everyone even teachers. Take it easy yet seriously. No need to be nervous. Mistakes can happen and things might not work as planned. Be supportive not judgmental to your child, teachers, and the process itself. Don t expect perfection Prepare the Learning Pick a quiet place in your home where your child can study away from: Visual distractions (T.V., toys, food, people passing in front of him, etc.) 19 Audio distraction (radio or any sound players, family gathering or children playing,..etc.) This will help your child focus on his tasks.

The device (tablet, PC, mobile, headset) is working and in a good condition. There is an easy way to print out material when needed. Internet connection is secured and stable. Stationary items are available and handy. Your child can use the e-learning platform effectively and independently. Explain the features of the platform to your child. Make a visual planner (i.e. subjects weekly schedule. times when teachers are online, number of assignments, assignments due dates, etc.) A consistent daily routine (study time, play time, eating time) will keep you and your child organized and will make the best use of time. If you have more than 1 child, set a different study time for each child to be able to focus. 20

A child s attention span is calculated by adding 1 minute to the his/her age. Let your child know when they have done something well. Praise and encouragement motivate children to do put more effort. It's natural to make mistakes. Don't criticize them too much when they make mistakes. Encourage them to find out how to do it right. If parents teach kids never to make mistakes, or shun them when mistakes happen, kids end up missing a wealth of knowledge. If your child is 6 years old, then his attention span will be 7 minutes (6+1). After 7 minutes of doing the same thing, the child will start to lose attention and get busy with other stuff around him. Giving a mini break every 7 minutes of focus will enhance his/her learning and performance. The most important lesson children learn during life crisis is how adults are dealing with it. Children follow their parents deeds more than their words. Parents Experience about E- Learning قد سمحت لنا تجربة التعلم عن بعد فرصة مثالية لنزيد من تقديرنا لجهود المعلمين في الميدان فمهما ذكرنا اننا نعلم ما يبذله المعلم من جهد وصبر وابداع في العملية التعليمية لن نفيه حقه ونحن نحاول كأمهات ان نغطي دوره في البيت انا الآن في منصة التعليم عن بعد ايقنت كم هو صعب ان تقوم بايصال المعلومة ل ٢٥ طالبا وأتأكد من فهمهم وإتقانهم وكم هو صعب دمج اللعب بالتعلم والتعلم الإبداعي والتلقين والتعلم الجماعي كم يحتاج للصبر التعامل مع خلفيات عائلية مختلفة وكم هو صعب ان يحافظ المعلم على ابتسامته بعد ٨ ساعات من العمل المتواصل ومع هذا الكم من المجهود.. لمعلمات ابنتي كل الاحترام والشكر والتقدير جوزيتم عنا كل خير وثواب ودمتم بخير والدة الطالبة / نور أنس الجندي KG2A The E- Learning experience with my kids is really fruitful, my kids become more independent now, they like how the teachers are delivery the learning process to them, they are enjoying learning through applications. Although they are missing the fun at school but I can t deny that the teachers and leaders are doing their best to drive it to them.
