Nafi' narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ used to say: "When the Muslims arrived in Madinah they used to gather and try to figure out the time for prayer, and no one gave the call to prayer. One day they spoke about that; some of them said: 'Let us use a bell like the Christians do;' others said, 'No, a horn like the Jews have.' 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said : 'Why don't you send a man to announce the time of prayer?' It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said : "At the time of the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى the phrases of the Adhan were said twice and the phrases of - say the Iqamah were said once, except that you should ' ق د ق ام ت الص ال ة ق د ق ام ت الص ال ة [prayer is about to begin, prayer is about to begin]." (One of the (وسلم للا أ ك ب ر للا said, Ibrahim said, "It is like this Adhan of ours". I said : "Recite it to me." He [I bear witness that -أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا greatest], [Allah is the greatest, Allah is the -أ ك ب ر there is there is no God except Allah] - twice. Then - أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا ]أ ش ه د I bear witness 2

7 that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah] - twice. Then he said in a lower voice which those around him could here - أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا [I bear witness that there is there is no God except Allah] - twice. أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا -أ ش ه د [ I bear witness that Muhammad is the -ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح twice; come ]ح ى to prayer] - ع ل ى الص ال ة - Then Apostle of Allah] - twice. 8 صلى للا ( Allah said : "The Apostle of (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) It was narrated that Abu Mahdhura للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د - said taught me the Adhan and (عليه و آله وسلم [ Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س و ل للا Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; I bear witness that there is no God except Allah, I bear witness that there is no God except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle Allah)'. أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن - said Then he repeated it and I bear ]م ح م د ا ر س ول للا ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا witness that there is no God except Allah, I bear witness that there is no God except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah; Come to prayer, come to prayer; come to prosperity, come to prosperity; Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there is no God except Allah].'" 'Abdul-'Aziz bin 'Abdul-Malik bin Abu Mahdhurah narrated that 'Abdullah bin Muhairiz - who was an orphan under the care of Abu Mahdhurah للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ until he prepared him to go to Syria - informed him : he said : "I said to Abu Mahdhurah 'I am going to Syria and I am afraid that I will be asked about how you : (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) say the Adhan." 'He told me that Abu Mahdhurah للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said to him, I went out with a group of people and we were somewhere on the road to Hunain when the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى was coming back from Hunain. The Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى met us somewhere on the road and the Muadh-dhin of the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى called the Adhan for prayer in the presence of the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم).(صلى We heard the voice of the Muadh-dhin and we were careless about it (the Adhan), so we started yelling, imitating and mocking it. The Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى heard us, so he sent some people who brought us to stand in front of him. He said, 'Who is the one whose voice I heard so loud?' The 4

9 people all pointed to me, and they were telling the truth. He sent them all away, but kept me there and said to me: 'Stand up and call the Adhan for the Prayer.' I stood up and the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى taught me the Adhan himself. He Said, للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن - 'Say Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is ]م ح م د ا ر س ول للا the Greatest; I bear witness that there is no God except Allah, I bear witness that there is no God except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle Allah].' Then he said: 'Then repeat and say in a أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا ح ى ع ل ى - voice loud I bear witness that there ]الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا is no God except Allah, I bear witness that there is no God except Allah; I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah; Come to prayer, come to prayer; come to prosperity, come to prosperity; Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there is no God except Allah].' Then he called me when I had finished saying the Adhan, and he gave me a bundle in which there was some silver. I said : 'O Apostle of Allah ( للا عليه و آله وسلم,(صلى let me be the one doing the Adhan in Makkah.' He said : 'I command you to do so.' Then I came to 'Attab bin Asid in (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) who was the governor of the Apostle of Allah (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) Makkah and I called the Adhan for prayer with him upon the orders of the Apostle of ".(صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) Allah CHAPTER (6) باب األ ذ ان ف ي الس ف ر The Adhan when traveling Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 8 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ ب ر اه يم ب ن ال ح س ن ق ال ح د ث ن ا ح ج اج ع ن اب ن ج ر ي ج ع ن ع ث م ان ب ن الس ائ ب ق ال أ خ ب ر ن ي أ ب ي و أ م ع ب د ال م ل ك ب ن أ ب ي م ح ذ ور ة ع ن أ ب ي م ح ذ ور ة ق ال ل م ا خ ر ج ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم م ن ح ن ي ن خ ر ج ت ع اش ر ع ش ر ة م ن أ ه ل م ك ة ن ط ل ب ه م ف س م ع ن اه م ي ؤ ذ ن ون ب الص ال ة ف ق م ن ا ن ؤ ذ ن ن س ت ه ز ئ ب ه م ف ق ال ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم " ق د س م ع ت ف ي ه ؤ ال ء ت أ ذ ين إ ن س ان ح س ن الص و ت ". ف أ ر س ل إ ل ي ن ا ف أ ذ ن ا ر ج ل ر ج ل و ك ن ت آخ ر ه م ف ق ال ح ين أ ذ ن ت " ت ع ال ". ف أ ج ل س ن ي ب ي ن ي د ي ه ف م س ح ع ل ى ن اص ي ت ي و ب ر ك ع ل ى ث ال ث م ر ات ث م ق ال " اذ ه ب ف أ ذ ن ع ن د ال ب ي ت ال ح ر ا م ". ق ل ت ك ي ف ي ا ر س ول للا ف ع ل م ن ي ك م ا ت ؤ ذ ن ون اآلن ب ه ا " للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح الص ال ة خ ي ر م ن الن و م الص ال ة خ ي ر م ن الن و م ". ف ي األ ول ى م ن الص ب ح ق ال و ع ل م ن ي اإل ق ام ة م ر ت ي ن " للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن ال إ ل ه إ ال للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح ق د ق ام ت الص ال ة ق د ق ام ت الص ال ة للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا ". ق ال اب ن ج ر ي ج أ خ ب ر ن ي ع ث م ان ه ذ ا ال خ ب ر ك ل ه ع ن أ ب يه و ع ن أ م ع ب د ال م ل ك ب ن أ ب ي م ح ذ ور ة أ ن ه م ا س م ع ا ذ ل ك م ن أ ب ي م ح ذ ور ة. 5

10 It was narrated that Abu Mahdhurah للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said: "When the Apostle of Allah left Hunain, I was the tenth of a group of ten of the people of (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) Makkah who were trying to catch up with them. We heard them calling the Adhan for the prayer and we started to repeat the Adhan, mocking them. The Apostle of Allah said, 'I heard among these people the Adhan of one who has a (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) beautiful voice.' He sent for us, and we recited the Adhan one by one, and I was the last of them. When I said the Adhan, he said : 'Come here.' He sat me down in front of him and rubbed my forelock and blessed me three times, then he said, 'Go and give the Adhan at the sacred House.' "ف ل ي ؤ ذ ن ل ك م أ ح د ك م و ل ي ؤ م ك م أ ك ب ر ك م It was narrated that Malik bin Al-Huwairith للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said: "We came to the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى and we were young men close in age. He let us stay with him for twenty days. The Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى was merciful and compassionate and he thought that we were missing our families; he asked us about those whom we had left behind of our families, so we told him, and he said: 'Go back to your families, stay with them and teach them. Tell them when the time for prayer comes; let one of you call the Adhan and let the oldest of you lead the prayer.'" I met him and asked him, and he said: "When Makka was conquered, all the people hastened to announce their Islam. My father went to announce the Islam of the people 7

12 of our village, and when he came back we went to see him and he said : 'By Allah, I have indeed come to you from the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم).'(صلى He said : 'Pray such and such prayer at such and such time, pray such and such prayer at such and such time. When the time for prayer comes let one of you call the Adhan and let the one who knows the Qur'an more lead the prayer.'" CHAPTER (9) باب ال م ؤ ذ ن ي ن ل ل م س ج د ال و اح د Two Muadh-dhins in one Masjid Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 12 أ خ ب ر ن ا ق ت ي ب ة ع ن م ال ك ع ن ع ب د للا ب ن د ين ار ع ن اب ن ع م ر أ ن ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ق ا ل " إ ن ب ال ال ي ؤ ذ ن ب ل ي ل ف ك ل وا و اش ر ب وا ح ت ى ي ن اد ي اب ن أ م م ك ت وم ". صلى للا عليه و آله ( Allah that the Apostle of (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar calls the Adhan during the night, so eat and drink until (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) said :"Bilal (وسلم Ibn Umm Maktum للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ calls (the Adhan)" Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 13 أ خ ب ر ن ا ق ت ي ب ة ق ال ح د ث ن ا الل ي ث ع ن اب ن ش ه اب ع ن س ال م ع ن أ ب يه أ ن الن ب ي صلى للا عليه وسلم ق ا ل " إ ن ب ال ال ي ؤ ذ ن ب ل ي ل ف ك ل وا و اش ر ب وا ح ت ى ت س م ع وا ت أ ذ ين اب ن أ م م ك ت وم ". It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Prophet للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى said: "Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ calls the Adhan during the night, so eat and drink until you hear Ibn Umm Maktoom للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ calling the Adhan." It was narrated that Ummul Momineen Aisha للا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ said :"The Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى said : 'Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ calls the Adhan during the night, so eat and drink until Ibn Umm Maktum للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ calls the Adhan." She said : "And there was no more time between them than the time it takes for one to come down and the other to go up." Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 15 أ خ ب ر ن ا ي ع ق وب ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن ه ش ي م ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا م ن ص ور ع ن خ ب ي ب ب ن ع ب د الر ح م ن ع ن ع م ت ه أ ن ي س ة ق ال ت ق ا ل ر س ول للا." إ ذ ا أ ذ ن اب ن أ م م ك ت وم ف ك ل وا و اش ر ب وا و إ ذ ا أ ذ ن ب ال ل ف ال ت أ ك ل وا و ال ت ش ر ب وا "صلى للا عليه وسلم رضئ للا ( Unaisa It was narrtaed from Khubaib bin 'Abdur-Rahman that his paternal aunt said : 'When Ibn Umm Maktum (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said: "The Apostle of Allah (تعالی عنہا calls the (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) calls the Adhan, eat and drink, and when Bilal (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) Adhan, do not eat nor drink." Explanation رضئ للا ( Maktum giving Adhan earlier than Umm (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) The Ahadith of Bilal are numerous. Therefore, it is probable that the above Hadith also means the (تعالی عنہ same as many other Ahadith in several books of Ahadith in this context. Umm Maktum was blind and required someone to tell him that it was morning and he (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ ( has to call for the prayer. CHAPTER (11) باب األ ذ ان ف ي غ ي ر و ق ت الص ال ة The Adhan at times other than the time for prayer Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 16 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ س ح اق ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا ال م ع ت م ر ب ن س ل ي م ان ع ن أ ب يه ع ن أ ب ي ع ث م ان ع ن اب ن م س ع ود ع ن الن ب ي صلى للا عليه. ي ع ن ي ف ي الص ب ح." إ ن ب ال ال ي ؤ ذ ن ب ل ي ل ل ي وق ظ ن ائ م ك م و ل ي ر ج ع ق ائ م ك م و ل ي س أ ن ي ق ول ه ك ذ ا "وسلم ق ال (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) that the Prophet (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud said: "Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ calls the Adhan during the night to wake those who are 9

14 sleeping and so that those who are praying Qiyam can return. Not to say it is like this". The break of dawn is not like this. CHAPTER (12) باب و ق ت أ ذ ان الص ب ح The time for the Adhan for Fajr Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 17 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ س ح اق ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ق ال ح د ث ن ا ي ز يد ق ال ح د ث ن ا ح م ي د ع ن أ ن س أ ن س ائ ال س أ ل ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ع ن و ق ت الص ب ح ف أ م ر ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ب ال ال ف أ ذ ن ح ين ط ل ع ال ف ج ر ف ل م ا ك ان م ن ال غ د أ خ ر ال ف ج ر ح ت ى أ س ف ر ث م أ م ر ه ف أ ق ا م." ه ذ ا و ق ت الص ال ة "ف ص ل ى ث م ق ال It was narrated from Anas ( للا تعالی عنہ (رضئ that someone asked the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) about the time of Subh. The Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) commanded Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ to call the Adhan when dawn broke, then the next day he delayed Fajr until it was very light, then he told him to call the Adhan and he prayed. Then he said : "This is the time for the prayer." CHAPTER (13) باب ك ي ف ي ص ن ع ال م ؤ ذ ن ف ي أ ذ ان ه What should the Muadh-dhin do while calling the Adhan Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 18 أ خ ب ر ن ا م ح م ود ب ن غ ي ال ن ق ال ح د ث ن ا و ك يع ق ال ح د ث ن ا س ف ي ان ع ن ع و ن ب ن أ ب ي ج ح ي ف ة ع ن أ ب يه ق ال أ ت ي ت الن ب ي صلى للا عليه وسلم ف خ ر ج ب ال ل ف أ ذ ن ف ج ع ل ي ق ول ف ي أ ذ ان ه ه ك ذ ا ي ن ح ر ف ي م ين ا و ش م اال. It was narrated from 'Awn bin Abi Juhaifah that his father said : "I came to the Prophet came out and called the Adhan and he (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) and Bilal (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) started doing like this in his Adhan; turning to his right and left." 10

'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Abdullah bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah Al-Ansari Al- Mazini narrated that his father told him that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said to him : "I see that you love sheep and the desert. When you are with your sheep or in the desert and you call the Adhan for prayer, then raise your voice, for no human, Jinn or anything else hears the voice of the Mu'adh-dhin as far as it reaches, but it will bear witness for him on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Sa'eed للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said: "I heard ".(صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) it from the Apostle of Allah Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 20 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ س م اع يل ب ن م س ع ود و م ح م د ب ن ع ب د األ ع ل ى ق اال ح د ث ن ا ي ز يد - ي ع ن ي اب ن ز ر ي ع - ق ال ح د ث ن ا ش ع ب ة ع ن م وس ى ب ن أ ب ي ال م ؤ ذ ن ي غ ف ر ل ه ب م د ص و ت ه و ي ش ه د "ع ث م ان ع ن أ ب ي ي ح ي ى ع ن أ ب ي ه ر ي ر ة س م ع ه م ن ف م ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ي ق و ل. "ل ه ك ل ر ط ب و ي اب س It was narrated from Abu Huraira للا تعالی عنہ),(رضئ who heard it from the Apostle of Allah ( للا عليه و آله وسلم (صلى :"The Mu'adh-dhin will be forgiven as far as his voice reaches, and every wet and dry thing will bear witness for him." Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 21 أ خ ب ر ن ا م ح م د ب ن ال م ث ن ى ق ال ح د ث ن ا م ع اذ ب ن ه ش ام ق ال ح د ث ن ي أ ب ي ع ن ق ت اد ة ع ن أ ب ي إ س ح اق ال ك وف ي ع ن ال ب ر اء ب ن ع از ب أ ن إ ن للا و م ال ئ ك ت ه ي ص ل ون ع ل ى الص ف ال م ق د م و ال م ؤ ذ ن ي غ ف ر ل ه ب م د ص و ت ه و ي ص د ق ه م ن س م ع ه "ن ب ي للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ق ال. "م ن ر ط ب و ي اب س و ل ه م ث ل أ ج ر م ن ص ل ى م ع ه صلى للا ( Allah that the Prophet of (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) It was narrated from Al-Bara bin 'Azib said : "Allah and His angels say salah upon those from the rows (praying in (عليه و آله وسلم a mosque) and the Mu'adh-dhin will be forgiven as far as his voice reaches and whatever hears him, wet or dry, will confirm what he says, and he will have a reward like that of those who pray with him." 11

16 CHAPTER (15) باب الت ث و يب ف ي أ ذ ان ال ف ج ر Adding the phrase 'Prayer is better than sleep' in the Adhan of Fajr Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 22 أ خ ب ر ن ا س و ي د ب ن ن ص ر ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا ع ب د للا ع ن س ف ي ان ع ن أ ب ي ج ع ف ر ع ن أ ب ي س ل م ان ع ن أ ب ي م ح ذ ور ة ق ال ك ن ت أ ؤ ذ ن ل ر س و ل للا صلى للا عليه وسلم و ك ن ت أ ق ول ف ي أ ذ ان ال ف ج ر األ و ل ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح الص ال ة خ ي ر م ن الن و م الص ال ة خ ي ر م ن الن و م للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا. It was narrated that Abu Mahdhura للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said : "I used to call the Adhan for ح ى - Say and in the first Adhan of Fajr I used to (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) the Apostle of Allah Come ]ع ل ى to prosperity, prayer ال ف ال ح الص ال ة خ ي ر م ن الن و م الص ال ة خ ي ر م ن الن و م للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no God except Allah).'" أ خ ب ر ن ا ع م ر و ب ن ع ل ي ق ال ح د ث ن ا ي ح ي ى و ع ب د الر ح م ن ق اال ح د ث ن ا س ف ي ان ب ه ذ ا اإل س ن اد ن ح و ه. Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 23 ق ال أ ب و ع ب د الر ح م ن و ل ي س ب أ ب ي ج ع ف ر ال ف ر اء. Sufyan narrated a similar report with the same chain. (One of the narrators) (Abu) 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai) said : "It is not Abu Ja'far Al-Farra'." CHAPTER (16) باب آخ ر األ ذ ان The final words of the Adhan Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 24 أ خ ب ر ن ا م ح م د ب ن م ع د ان ب ن ع يس ى ق ال ح د ث ن ا ال ح س ن ب ن أ ع ي ن ق ال ح د ث ن ا ز ه ي ر ق ال ح د ث ن ا األ ع م ش ع ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن األ س و د ع ن ب ال ل ق ال آخ ر األ ذ ان للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا. 12

17 It was narrated from Al-Aswad that Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said : "The final words of the Adhan are : أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا Allah ] للا is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no God except Allah]. Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 25 أ خ ب ر ن ا س و ي د ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا ع ب د للا ع ن س ف ي ان ع ن م ن ص ور ع ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن األ س و د ق ال ك ان آخ ر أ ذ ان ب ال ل للا أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا. رضئ للا تعالی ( Bilal It was narrated that Al-Aswad said : "The final words of the Adhan of Allah ] للا is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no أ ك ب ر للا أ ك ب ر ال إ ل ه إ ال للا : were (عنہ God except Allah.)'" Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 26 أ خ ب ر ن ا س و ي د ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا ع ب د للا ع ن س ف ي ان ع ن األ ع م ش ع ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن األ س و د مث ل ذ ل ك. There is another chain for the above Hadith from Ibrahim, from Al-Aswad, with similar wording. It was narrated that Muharib bin Dithar said : Al-Aswad bin Yazid narrated to me from Abu Mahdhura للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ that the final words of the Adhan are - إ ل ه إ ال للا ]ال There is no God except Allah]. 18 It was narrated that 'Amr bin Aws said : "A man of Thaqif told us that he heard the caller of the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى on a rainy night during a journey saying : ح ى ع ل ى الص ال ة ح ى ع ل ى ال ف ال ح ص ل وا ف ي ر ح ال ك م [ Come to prayer, come to prosperity, pray in your dwellings].'" Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 29 أ خ ب ر ن ا ق ت ي ب ة ع ن م ال ك ع ن ن اف ع أ ن اب ن ع م ر أ ذ ن ب الص ال ة ف ي ل ي ل ة ذ ات ب ر د و ر يح ف ق ال أ ال ص ل وا ف ي الر ح ال ف إ ن ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ك ان ي أ م ر ال م ؤ ذ ن إ ذ ا ك ان ت ل ي ل ة ب ار د ة ذ ات م ط ر ي ق ول أ ال ص ل وا ف ي الر ح ا ل. It was narrated from Nafi' that Ibn 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ gave a call to prayer on a cold (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) and windy night, and he said : "Pray where you are, for the Prophet ص ل وا ف ي - say used to order the Mu'adh-dhin, if it was a cold and rainy night, to dwellings.] [Pray in your الر ح ال CHAPTER (18) باب األ ذ ان ل م ن ي ج م ع ب ي ن الص ال ت ي ن ف ي و ق ت األ ول ى م ن ه م ا The Adhan for one who is combining two prayers at the time of the earlier prayer Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 30 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ ب ر اه يم ب ن ه ار ون ق ال ح د ث ن ا ح ات م ب ن إ س م اع يل ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا ج ع ف ر ب ن م ح م د ع ن أ ب يه أ ن ج اب ر ب ن ع ب د للا ق ال س ا ر ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ح ت ى أ ت ى ع ر ف ة ف و ج د ال ق ب ة ق د ض ر ب ت ل ه ب ن م ر ة ف ن ز ل ب ه ا ح ت ى إ ذ ا ز اغ ت الش م س أ م ر ب ال ق ص و ا ء ف ر ح ل ت ل ه ح ت ى إ ذ ا ان ت ه ى إ ل ى ب ط ن ال و اد ي خ ط ب الن اس ث م أ ذ ن ب ال ل ث م أ ق ام ف ص ل ى الظ ه ر ث م أ ق ام ف ص ل ى ال ع ص ر و ل م ي ص ل ب ين ه م ا ش ي ئ ا. (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) Ja'far bin Muhammad narrated from his father, that Jabir bin 'Abdullah said: "The Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى traveled until he came to 'Arafa, where he found that the tent had been pitched for him in Namirah, so he stopped there. Then when the sun had passed its zenith he called for Qaswa' (his she Camel) and she was saddled for him. Then when he reached the bottom of the valley he addressed the people. Then Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ called the Adhan, then he said the Iqamah and he prayed Zuhr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed 'Asr, and he did not offer any prayer in between them." 14

19 CHAPTER (19) باب األ ذ ان ل م ن ج م ع ب ي ن الص ال ت ي ن ب ع د ذ ه اب و ق ت األ ول ى م ن ه م ا The Adhan for one who is combining two prayers after the time of the first prayer has gone Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 31 أ خ ب ر ن ي إ ب ر اه يم ب ن ه ار ون ق ال ح د ث ن ا ح ات م ب ن إ س م اع يل ق ال ح د ث ن ا ج ع ف ر ب ن م ح م د ع ن أ ب يه أ ن ج اب ر ب ن ع ب د للا ق ال د ف ع ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ح ت ى ان ت ه ى إ ل ى ال م ز د ل ف ة ف ص ل ى ب ه ا ال م غ ر ب و ال ع ش اء ب أ ذ ان و إ ق ام ت ي ن و ل م ي ص ل ب ي ن ه م ا ش ي ئ ا. صلى ( Allah said: "The Apostle of (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdulla 'Isha' moved until he came to Muzdalifah, where he prayed Maghrib and (للا عليه و آله وسلم with one Adhan and two Iqama, and he did not offer any prayer in between them." It was narrated that Sa'eed bin Jubair said concerning Ibn 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ : "We were with him (Ibn 'Umar - للا تعالی عنہ (رضئ in Jam' (Muzdalifah), and he called the Adhan, then the Iqamah, then he led us in praying Maghrib. Then he said : 'The prayer,' and he led us in praying 'Isha', two Rak'a. I said : 'What is this prayer?' He said: 'This is how I prayed with the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى in this place.'" 20 It was narrated from Sa'eed bin Jubair that he prayed Maghrib and 'Isha' in Jam' (Muzdalifah) with one Iqamah, then he narrated that Ibn 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ had (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) narrated that the Prophet (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) done that, and Ibn 'Umar had done that. It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ that he prayed in Jam' (Muzdalifa) with the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى with one Iqamah. Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 35 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ س ح اق ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن و ك يع ق ال ح د ث ن ا اب ن أ ب ي ذ ئ ب ع ن الز ه ر ي ع ن س ال م ع ن أ ب يه أ ن ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ج م ع ب ي ن ه م ا ب ال م ز د ل ف ة ص ل ى ك ل و اح د ة م ن ه م ا ب إ ق ام ة و ل م ي ت ط و ع ق ب ل و اح د ة م ن ه م ا و ال ب ع د. It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Prophet للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى joined them (Maghrib and 'Isha') in Muzdalifah, and he prayed each of them with an Iqama, and he did not offer any voluntary prayer before or after either of them. CHAPTER (21) باب األ ذ ان ل ل ف ائ ت م ن الص ل و ات Adhan for the missed prayer Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 36 أ خ ب ر ن ا ع م ر و ب ن ع ل ي ق ال ح د ث ن ا ي ح ي ى ق ال ح د ث ن ا اب ن أ ب ي ذ ئ ب ق ال ح د ث ن ا س ع يد ب ن أ ب ي س عيد ع ن ع ب د الر ح م ن ب ن أ ب ي س ع يد ع ن أ ب يه ق ال ش غ ل ن ا ال م ش ر ك ون ي و م ال خ ن د ق ع ن ص ال ة الظ ه ر ح ت ى غ ر ب ت الش م س و ذ ل ك ق ب ل أ ن ي ن ز ل ف ي ال ق ت ال م ا ن ز ل ف أ ن ز ل للا ع ز و ج ل { و ك ف ى للا ال م ؤ م ن ين ال ق ت ال } ف أ م ر ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ب ال ال ف أ ق ام ل ص ال ة الظ ه ر ف ص ال ه ا ك م ا ك ا ن ي ص ل يه ا ل و ق ت ه ا ث م أ ق ام ل ل ع ص ر ف ص ال ه ا ك م ا ك ان ي ص ل يه ا ف ي و ق ت ه ا ث م أ ذ ن ل ل م غ ر ب ف ص ال ه ا ك م ا ك ان ي ص ل يه ا ف ي و ق ت ه ا It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Sa'eed that his father said : "On the day of Khandaq the idolators kept us from praying Zuhr until the sun had gone down; that was before the revelation concerning fighting was revealed. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed - و ك ف ى للا ال م ؤ م ن ين ال ق ت ا ل [Allah sufficed for the believers in the fighting] رضئ للا تعالی ( Bilal commanded (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) (Al-Ahzab - 25). The Apostle of Allah 16

21 to say the Iqamah for Zuhr prayer, and he offered it just as he used to offer it on (عنہ time. Then he said the Iqamah for 'Asr and he offered it just as he used to offer it on time. Then he called the Adhan for Maghrib and offered it on time. CHAPTER (22) باب اال ج ت ز اء ل ذ ل ك ك ل ه ب أ ذ ان و اح د و اإل ق ام ة ل ك ل و اح د ة م ن ه م ا The acceptability of all of that with one Adhan and an Iqama for each one of them Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 37 أ خ ب ر ن ا ه ن اد ع ن ه ش ي م ع ن أ ب ي الز ب ي ر ع ن ن اف ع ب ن ج ب ي ر ع ن أ ب ي ع ب ي د ة ق ال ق ال ع ب د للا إ ن ال م ش ر ك ين ش غ ل وا الن ب ي صلى للا عليه وسلم ع ن أ ر ب ع ص ل و ات ي و م ال خ ن د ق ف أ م ر ب ال ال ف أ ذ ن ث م أ ق ام ف ص ل ى الظ ه ر ث م أ ق ام ف ص ل ى ال ع ص ر ث م أ ق ام ف ص ل ى ال م غ ر ب ث م أ ق ام ف ص ل ى ال ع ش اء. It was narrated that Abu 'Ubaidah said : "Abdullah للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said: 'The idolators kept the Prophet للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى from (offering) four prayers on the day of Khandaq, so he commanded Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ to call the Adhan, then he said the Iqamah and prayed Zuhr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed 'Asr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed the Maghrib, then he said the Iqamah and prayed 'Isha'.'" CHAPTER (23) باب اال ك ت ف اء ب اإل ق ام ة ل ك ل ص ال ة Sufficing with the Iqama for every prayer Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 38 أ خ ب ر ن ا ال ق اس م ب ن ز ك ر ي ا ب ن د ين ار ق ال ح د ث ن ا ح س ي ن ب ن ع ل ي ع ن ز ائ د ة ق ال ح د ث ن ا س ع يد ب ن أ ب ي ع ر وب ة ق ال ح د ث ن ا ه ش ام أ ن أ ب ا الز ب ي ر ال م ك ي ح د ث ه م ع ن ن اف ع ب ن ج ب ي ر أ ن أ ب ا ع ب ي د ة ب ن ع ب د للا ب ن م س ع ود ح د ث ه م أ ن ع ب د للا ب ن م س ع ود ق ال ك ن ا ف ي غ ز و ة ف ح ب س ن ا ال م ش ر ك ون ع ن ص ال ة الظ ه ر و ال ع ص ر و ال م غ ر ب و ال ع ش اء ف ل م ا ان ص ر ف ال م ش ر ك ون أ م ر ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم م ن اد ي ا ف أ ق ام ل ص ال ة الظ ه ر ف ص ل ي ن ا و أ ق ام ل ص ال ة ال ع ص ر ف ص ل ي ن ا و أ ق ام ل ص ال ة ال م غ ر ب ف ص ل ي ن ا و أ ق ام ل ص ال ة ال ع ش اء ف ص ل ي ن ا ث م ط ا ف." م ا ع ل ى األ ر ض ع ص اب ة ي ذ ك ر ون للا ع ز و ج ل غ ي ر ك م "ع ل ي ن ا ف ق ا ل 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ : "We were fighting a battle and the idolators kept us from praying Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib and 'Isha'. When the idolators went away, the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى commanded a caller to say Iqamah for Zuhr 17

22 prayer, and we prayed. Then he said the Iqamah for 'Asr, and we prayed, and he said the Iqamah for Maghrib and we prayed, and he said the Iqama for 'Isha' and we prayed. Then we went around among us and said : 'There is no group on Earth who is remembering Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, except you.'" It was narrated that Mu'awiyah bin Hudaij للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said that the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى prayed one day and said the Taslim when there was still a Rak'a left of the prayer. A man caught up with him and said : 'You forgot a Rak'a of the prayer!' So he came back into the Masjid and told Bilal للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ to call the Iqamah for prayer, then he led the people in praying one Rak'a. I told the people about that and they said to me : 'Do you know who that man was?' I said : 'No, not unless I see him.' Then he passed by me and I said : 'This is he.' They said: 'This is Talha bin "'.(رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) 'Ubaidullah CHAPTER (25) باب أ ذ ان الر اع ي The Adhan of a shepherd Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 40 أ خ ب ر ن ا إ س ح اق ب ن م ن ص ور ق ال أ ن ب أ ن ا ع ب د الر ح م ن ع ن ش ع ب ة ع ن ال ح ك م ع ن اب ن أ ب ي ل ي ل ى ع ن ع ب د للا ب ن ر ب ي ع ة أ ن ه ك ان م ع ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ف ي س ف ر ف س م ع ص و ت ر ج ل ي ؤ ذ ن ح ت ى إ ذ ا ب ل غ أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا ر س ول للا - ق ال ال ح ك م ل م أ س م ع ه ذ ا ع ن اب ن أ ب ي ل ي ل ى - ق ال ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم " إ ن ه ذ ا ل ر اع ي غ ن م أ و ر ج ل ع از ب ع ن أ ه ل ه ". ف ه ب ط ال و اد ي ف إ ذ ا 18

" It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Rubayyi'a للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ that he was with the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى on a journey and he heard the voice of a man أ ش ه د أ ن م ح م د ا - words calling the Adhan and he said what he said. When he reached the [ I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah], Al-Hakam said, "I did ر س ول للا not hear this from Ibn Abi Lailah", the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى said : "This is a shepherd of a man who is away from his family." He went down into the valley and found a shepherd, standing by a dead sheep. He said : "Do you think that this is worthless to its owners?" They said : "Yes." He said : "This world is more worthless to Allah than this (dead sheep) is to its owners." CHAPTER (26) باب األ ذ ان ل م ن ي ص ل ي و ح د ه The Adhan for one who is praying alone Sunan an-nasai, Vol 1, Bk 7, Hadith # 41 أ خ ب ر ن ا م ح م د ب ن س ل م ة ق ال ح د ث ن ا اب ن و ه ب ع ن ع م ر و ب ن ال ح ار ث أ ن أ ب ا ع ش ان ة ال م ع اف ر ي ح د ث ه ع ن ع ق ب ة ب ن ع ام ر ق ا ل ي ع ج ب ر ب ك م ن ر اع ي غ ن م ف ي ر أ س ش ظ ي ة ال ج ب ل ي ؤ ذ ن ب الص ال ة و ي ص ل ي ف ي ق و ل "س م ع ت ر س ول للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ي ق ول. " للا ع ز و ج ل ان ظ ر وا إ ل ى ع ب د ي ه ذ ا ي ؤ ذ ن و ي ق يم الص ال ة ي خ اف م ن ي ق د غ ف ر ت ل ع ب د ي و أ د خ ل ت ه ال ج ن ة It was narrated that 'Uqbah bin 'Amir للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said : "I heard the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى say : 'Your Lord is pleased with a shepherd high in the mountains who calls the Adhan for the prayer, and prays. Allah says : 'Look at this servant of Mine; he calls the Adhan and Iqamah for the prayer and fears Me. I have forgiven My servant and admitted him to Paradise.'" It was narrated from Rifa'ah bin Rafi' للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ that while the Apostle of Allah incorrectly, was sitting in a row for prayer (and saw a man praying (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) so he corrected him). It was narrated that Abu Al-Muthanna, the Mu'adh-dhin of the Jami' Masjid, said : "I asked Ibn 'Umar للا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ about the Adhan and he said : 'At the time of the Apostle of Allah للا عليه و آله وسلم),(صلى the phrases of the Adhan were recited twice and ق د ق ام ت - phrase) the phrases of Iqamah once, except that you should say (the [prayer is about to begin] twice. When we heard 'prayer is about to begin' we الص ال ة would perform Wudu' and go out to pray.'"
