(صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) Abdullah bin Buhaina once led us in a prayer and offered two rak`a and got up (for the third rak`a) without sitting (after the second rak`a). The people also got up with him, and when he was about to finish his prayer, we waited for him to finish the prayer with Taslim but he said Takbir before Taslim and performed two prostrations while sitting and then finished the prayer with Taslim. (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) Abdullah bin Buhaina got up after the second rak`a of the Zuhr prayer without sitting in between (the second and the third rak`at). When he finished the prayer he performed two prostrations (of Sahu) and then finished the prayer with Taslim. Abdullah هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that once the Apostle of Allah هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى offered five rak`a in the Zuhr prayer, and somebody asked him whether there was some increase in the prayer. Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى said, what is that?" He said, you have offered five rak`a." So, Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى performed two prostrations of Sahu after Taslim. Abu Huraira هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that the Prophet هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى led us in the Asr or the Zuhr prayer and finished it with Taslim. Dhul-Yadain هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said to him, O صلى هللا عليه و آله ( Prophet Has the prayer been reduced? The!(صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) Allah's Apostle صلى هللا عليه و ( Apostle asked his companions and they replied in the affirmative. So Allah's (وسلم رضئ هللا ( Sa`d offered two more rak`a and then performed two prostrations (of Sahu). (آله وسلم had offered two rak`a in the (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, I saw that 'Urwa bin Az-Zubair (تعالی عنہ Maghrib prayer and finished it with Taslim. He then talked (and when he was informed about it) صلى هللا ( Prophet he completed the rest of his prayer and performed two prostrations, and said, 'the this.' prayed like (عليه و آله وسلم CHAPTER (4) باب م ن ل م ي ت ش ه د ف ي س ج د ت ى الس ه و Whoever did not recite Tashah-dud after the two prostrations of Sahw و س ل م أ ن س و ال ح س ن و ل م ي ت ش ه د ا و ق ال ق ت اد ة ال ي ت ش ه د And Anas and Al-Hasan ( هللا تعالی عنہما (رضئ did not recite it. And Qatada said that Tashah-hud should not be recited (after the prostrations of Sahw). Abu Huraira هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that once Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى offered two rak`a and finished his prayer. So, Dhul-Yadain هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ asked him, has the prayer رضئ هللا تعالی ( Dhul-Yadain said, has (ﷺ) been reduced or have you forgotten? Allah's Apostle صلى هللا عليه و ( Apostle spoken the truth? The people replied in the affirmative. Then Allah's (عنہ stood up and offered the remaining two rak`a and performed Taslim, and then said (آله وسلم Takbir and performed two prostrations like his usual prostrations, or a bit longer, and then got up. Salama bin 'Alqama narrated that he asked Muhammad (bin Seereen) whether Tashah-hud should be recited after the two prostrations of Sahu. He replied, it is not (mentioned) in Abu Huraira's هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narration. CHAPTER (5) باب م ن ي ك ب ر ف ي س ج د ت ى الس ه و To say Takbir in the prostrations of Sahw Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 007 ح د ث ن ا ح ف ص ب ن ع م ر ح د ث ن ا ي ز يد ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن م ح م د ع ن أ ب ي ه ر ي ر ة رضى هللا عنه ق ال ص ل ى الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم إ ح د ى ص ال ت ى ال ع ش ي ق ال م ح م د و أ ك ث ر ظ ن ي ال ع ص ر ر ك ع ت ي ن ث م س ل م ث م ق ام إ ل ى خ ش ب ة ف ي م ق د م ال م س ج د ف و ض ع ي د ه ع ل ي ه ا و ف يه م أ ب و ب ك ر و ع م ر رضى هللا عنهما ف ه اب ا أ ن ي ك ل م اه و خ ر ج س ر ع ان الن اس ف ق ال وا أ ق ص ر ت الص ال ة و ر ج ل ي د ع وه الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم ذ و ال ي د ي ن ف ق ال أ ن س يت أ م ق ص ر ت ف ق ال " ل م أ ن س و ل م ت ق ص ر ". ق ال ب ل ى ق د ن س يت. ف ص ل ى ر ك ع ت ي ن ث م س ل م ث م ك ب ر ف س ج د م ث ل س ج ود ه أ و أ ط و ل ث م ر ف ع ر أ س ه ف ك ب ر ث م و ض ع ر أ س ه ف ك ب ر ف س ج د م ث ل س ج ود ه أ و أ ط و ل ث م ر ف ع ر أ س ه و ك ب ر. Abu Huraira هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that the Prophet هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى offered one of the evening prayers (the sub-narrator Muhammad said, I think that it was most probably the Asr prayer) and he finished it after offering two rak`a only. He then stood near a piece of wood in رضئ هللا ( `Umar and (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) front of the Mosque and put his hand over it. Abu Bakr were amongst those who were present, but they dared not talk to him about that (تعالی عنہ (because of excessive respect for him), and those who were in a hurry went out. They said, has the prayer been reduced? A man who was called Dhul-Yadain هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ by the Prophet "has the prayer been reduced or have you,(ﷺ said (to the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) forgotten? He said, neither have I forgotten, nor has the prayer been reduced. He said, certainly you have forgotten. So the Prophet هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى offered two more rak`a and performed Taslim and then said Takbir and performed a prostration of Sahu like his ordinary prostration or a bit longer and then raised his head and said Takbir and then put his head down and performed a prostration like his ordinary prostration or a bit longer, and then raised his head and said Takbir. Abdullah bin Buhaina Al-Asdi هللا تعالی عنہ),(رضئ (the ally of Bani Abdul Muttalib) narrated that Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى stood up for the Zuhr prayer and he should have sat (after the second rak`a but he stood up for the third rak`a without sitting for Tashah-hud) and when he finished the prayer he performed two prostrations and said Takbir on each prostration while sitting, before ending (the prayer) with Taslim; and the people too performed the two prostrations with him. CHAPTER (6) باب إ ذ ا ل م ي د ر ك م ص ل ى ث ال ث ا أ و أ ر ب ع ا س ج د س ج د ت ي ن و ه و ج ال س When a person forgets whether he has offered three or four Rak'a Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 009 ح د ث ن ا م ع اذ ب ن ف ض ال ة ح د ث ن ا ه ش ام ب ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا الد س ت و ائ ي ع ن ي ح ي ى ب ن أ ب ي ك ث ير ع ن أ ب ي س ل م ة ع ن أ ب ي ه ر ي ر ة رضى هللا عنه ق ال ق ال ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم " إ ذ ا ن ود ي ب الص ال ة أ د ب ر الش ي ط ان و ل ه ض ر اط ح ت ى ال ي س م ع األ ذ ان ف إ ذ ا ق ض ي األ ذ ان أ ق ب ل ف إ ذ ا ث و ب ب ه ا أ د ب ر ف إ ذ ا ق ض ي الت ث و يب أ ق ب ل ح ت ى ي خ ط ر ب ي ن ال م ر ء و ن ف س ه ي ق ول اذ ك ر ك ذ ا و كذ ا م ا ل م ي ك ن ي ذ ك ر ح ت ى ي ظ ل الر ج ل إ ن ي د ر ي ك م ص ل ى ف إ ذ ا ل م ي د ر أ ح د ك م ك م ص ل ى ث ال ث ا أ و أ ر ب ع ا ف ل ي س ج د س ج د ت ي ن و ه و ج ال س ". Abu Huraira هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that the Apostle of Allah هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى said, when the call for prayer is made, Satan takes to his heels passing wind so that he may not hear the Adhan and when the call is finished he comes back, and when the Iqama is pronounced, Satan again takes to his heels, and when the Iqama is finished he comes back again and tries to interfere with the person and his thoughts and say, remember this and that (which he has not thought of before the prayer), till the praying person forgets how much he has prayed. If anyone of you does not remember whether he has offered three or four rak`a then he should perform two prostrations of Sahu while sitting. Ibn Abbas هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ performed two prostrations (of Sahw) after the Witr prayer. Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 010 ح د ث ن ا ع ب د للا ب ن ي وس ف أ خ ب ر ن ا م ال ك ع ن اب ن ش ه اب ع ن أ ب ي س ل م ة ب ن ع ب د الر ح م ن ع ن أ ب ي ه ر ي ر ة رضى هللا عنه أ ن ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ق ال " إ ن أ ح د ك م إ ذ ا ق ام ي ص ل ي ج اء الش ي ط ان ف ل ب س ع ل ي ه ح ت ى ال ي د ر ي ك م ص ل ى ف إ ذ ا و ج د ذ ل ك أ ح د ك م ف ل ي س ج د س ج د ت ي ن و ه و ج ال س Abu Huraira هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى said, when anyone of you stands for the prayers, Satan comes and puts him in doubts till he forgets how many rak`a he has prayed. So, if this happens to anyone of you, he should perform two prostrations of Sahu while sitting. CHAPTER (8) باب إ ذ ا ك ل م و ه و ي ص ل ي ف أ ش ار ب ي د ه و اس ت م ع If a person speaks to a person offering Salah Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 011 ح د ث ن ا ي ح ي ى ب ن س ل ي م ان ق ال ح د ث ن ي اب ن و ه ب ق ال أ خ ب ر ن ي ع م ر و ع ن ب ك ي ر ع ن ك ر ي ب أ ن اب ن ع ب اس و ال م س و ر ب ن م خ ر م ة و ع ب د الر ح م ن ب ن أ ز ه ر رضى هللا عنهم أ ر س ل وه إ ل ى ع ائ ش ة رضى هللا عنها ف ق ال وا اق ر أ ع ل ي ه ا الس ال م م ن ا ج م يع ا و س ل ه ا ع ن الر ك ع ت ي ن ب ع د ص ال ة ال ع ص ر و ق ل ل ه ا إ ن ا أ خ ب ر ن ا أ ن ك ت ص ل ين ه م ا و ق د ب ل غ ن ا أ ن الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم ن ه ى ع ن ه ا. و ق ال اب ن ع ب اس و ك ن ت أ ض ر ب الن اس م ع ع م ر ب ن ال خ ط اب ع ن ه م ا. ف ق ال ك ر ي ب ف د خ ل ت ع ل ى ع ائ ش ة رضى هللا عنها ف ب ل غ ت ه ا م ا أ ر س ل ون ي. ف ق ال ت س ل أ م س ل م ة. ف خ ر ج ت إ ل ي ه م ف أ خ ب ر ت ه م ب ق و ل ه ا ف ر د ون ي إ ل ى أ م س ل م ة ب م ث ل م ا أ ر س ل ون ي ب ه إ ل ى ع ائ ش ة. ف ق ال ت أ م س ل م ة رضى هللا عنها س م ع ت الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم ي ن ه ى ع ن ه ا ث م ر أ ي ت ه ي ص ل يه م ا ح ين ص ل ى ال ع ص ر ث م د خ ل ع ل ى و ع ن د ي ن س و ة م ن ب ن ي ح ر ام م ن األ ن ص ار ف أ ر س ل ت إ ل ي ه ال ج ار ي ة ف ق ل ت ق وم ي ب ج ن ب ه ق ول ي ل ه ت ق ول ل ك أ م س ل م ة ي ا ر س ول للا س م ع ت ك ت ن ه ى ع ن ه ات ي ن و أ ر ا ك ت ص ل يه م ا. ف إ ن أ ش ار ب ي د ه ف اس ت أ خ ر ي ع ن ه. ف ف ع ل ت ال ج ار ي ة ف أ ش ار ب ي د ه ف اس ت أ خ ر ت ع ن ه ف ل م ا ان ص ر ف ق ال " ي ا ب ن ت أ ب ي أ م ي ة س أ ل ت ع ن الر ك ع ت ي ن ب ع د ال ع ص ر و إ ن ه أ ت ان ي ن اس م ن ع ب د ال ق ي س ف ش غ ل ون ي ع ن الر ك ع ت ي ن الل ت ي ن ب ع د الظ ه ر ف ه م ا ه ات ا ن (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا) narrated that I was sent to Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) Kuraib by Ibn Abbas, Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Abdur-Rahman bin Azhar ( هللا تعالی عنہم.(رضئ They told me to greet her on their behalf and to ask her about the offering of the two rak`a after the Asr prayer and to say to her, we were informed that you offer those two rak`a and we were told (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) had forbidden offering them. Ibn Abbas (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) that the Prophet said, I along with Umar bin Al-Khattab ( هللا تعالی عنہ (رضئ used to beat the people whenever they offered them. I went to Ummul Momineen Aisha هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ and told her that message. Ummul Momineen Aisha هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ said, go and ask Ummul Momineen Umm Salama about them. So I returned and informed them about her statement. They then (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا ( told me to go to Ummul Momineen Umm Salama هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ with the same question with 6
which t sent me to Ummul Momineen Aisha هللا تعالی عنہا).(رضئ Ummul Momineen Umm Salama هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ replied, I heard the Prophet هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى forbidding them. Later I saw him offering them immediately after he prayed the Asr prayer. He then entered my house at a time when some of the Ansari women from the tribe of Bani Haram were sitting with me, so I sent my slave girl to him having said to her, 'stand beside him and tell him that Ummul,(صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) says to you, O Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) Momineen Umm Salama I have heard you forbidding the offering of these (two rak`a after the Asr prayer) but I have seen you offering them. If he waves his hand then wait for him.' The slave girl did that. The Prophet beckoned her with his hand and she waited for him. When he had finished (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) the prayer he said, O daughter of Bani Umaiya هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ you have asked me about the two rak`a after the Asr prayer. The people of the tribe of Abdul Qais came to me and made me busy and I could not offer the two rak`a after the Zuhr prayer. These (two rak`a that I have just prayed) are for those (missed) ones. CHAPTER (9) باب اإل ش ار ة ف ي الص ال ة Beckoning during the Salah (by a person in Salah) ق ال ه ك ر ي ب ع ن أ م س ل م ة ر ض ي للا ع ن ه ا ع ن الن ب ي ص ل ى للا ع ل ي ه و س ل م Kuraib said, Ummul Momineen Umm Salama هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ said as (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) above on the authority of the Prophet Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 012 ح د ث ن ا ق ت ي ب ة ب ن س ع يد ح د ث ن ا ي ع ق وب ب ن ع ب د الر ح م ن ع ن أ ب ي ح از م ع ن س ه ل ب ن س ع د الس اع دي رضى هللا عنه أ ن ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ب ل غ ه أ ن ب ن ي ع م ر و ب ن ع و ف ك ان ب ي ن ه م ش ى ء ف خ ر ج ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ي ص ل ح ب ي ن ه م ف ي أ ن ا س م ع ه ف ح ب س ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم و ح ان ت الص ال ة ف ج اء ب ال ل إ ل ى أ ب ي ب ك ر رضى هللا عنه ف ق ال ي ا أ ب ا ب ك ر إ ن ر س و ل للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ق د ح ب س و ق د ح ان ت الص ال ة ف ه ل ل ك أ ن ت ؤ م الن اس ق ال ن ع م إ ن ش ئ ت. ف أ ق ام ب ال ل و ت ق د م أ ب و ب ك ر رضى هللا عنه ف ك ب ر ل لن اس و ج اء ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ي م ش ي ف ي الص ف وف ح ت ى ق ام ف ي الص ف ف أ خ ذ الن اس ف ي الت ص ف يق و ك ا ن أ ب و ب ك ر رضى هللا عنه ال ي ل ت ف ت ف ي ص ال ت ه ف ل م ا أ ك ث ر الن اس ال ت ف ت ف إ ذ ا ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ف أ ش ار إ ل ي ه ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ي أ م ر ه أ ن ي ص ل ي ف ر ف ع أ ب و ب ك ر رضى هللا عنه ي د ي ه ف ح م د للا و ر ج ع ال ق ه ق ر ى و راء ه ح ت ى ق ام ف ي الص ف ف ت ق د م ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ف ص ل ى ل لن اس ف ل م ا ف ر غ أ ق ب ل ع ل ى الن اس ف ق ال " ي ا أ ي ه ا الن اس م ا ل ك م ح ين ن اب ك م ش ى ء ف ي الص ال ة أ خ ذ ت م ف ي الت ص ف يق إ ن م ا الت ص ف يق ل لن س اء م ن ن اب ه ش ى ء ف ي ص ال ت ه ف ل ي ق ل س ب ح ان للا. ف إ ن ه ال ي س م ع ه أ ح د ح ين ي ق ول س ب ح ان للا إ ال ال ت ف ت ي ا أ ب ا ب ك ر م ا م ن ع ك أ ن ت ص ل ي ل لن اس ح ين أ ش ر ت إ ل ي ك ". ف ق ال أ ب و ب ك ر رضى هللا عنه م ا ك ان ي ن ب غ ي ال ب ن أ ب ي ق ح اف ة أ ن ي ص ل ي ب ي ن ي د ى ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم. Sahl bin Sa`d As-Sa`idi هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that the news about the differences amongst the people of Bani Amr bin Auf reached Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى and so he went to them along with some of his companions to effect a reconciliation between them. Allah's Apostle رضئ هللا تعالی ( Bilal was delayed there, and the time of the prayer was due. (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) 7
(صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) and said to him, Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) went to Abu Bakr (عنہ has been delayed (there) and the time of prayer is due. So, will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ said, Yes, if you wish. Bilal هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr هللا تعالی عنہ),(رضئ went forward and said Takbir for the people. In the meantime Allah's Apostle ( هللا عليه و آله وسلم (صلى came crossing the rows (of the praying people) and stood in the (first) row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr هللا تعالی عنہ),(رضئ would never glance sideways in his prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and saw Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى. Allah's Apostle هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى beckoned him to carry on the prayer. Abu Bakr هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ raised his hands and thanked Allah, and retreated till he reached the (first) row. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he completed the prayer he faced the people and said, O people, why did you start clapping when something unusual happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is only for women. So, whoever amongst you comes across something in the prayer should say, 'Subhanallah for there is none who will not turn round on hearing him saying Subhanallah. O Abu Bakr هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ what prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ replied, how dare the son of Abu Quhafa? (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) lead the prayer in the presence of Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 013 ح د ث ن ا ي ح ي ى ب ن س ل ي م ان ق ال ح د ث ن ي اب ن و ه ب ح د ث ن ا الث و ر ي ع ن ه ش ام ع ن ف اط م ة ع ن أ س م اء ق ال ت د خ ل ت ع ل ى ع ائ ش ة رضى هللا عنها و ه ي ت ص ل ي ق ائ م ة و الن اس ق ي ام ف ق ل ت م ا ش أ ن الن اس ف أ ش ار ت ب ر أ س ه ا إ ل ى الس م ا ء. ف ق ل ت آي ة. ف ق ال ت ب ر أ س ه ا أ ى.ن ع م Asma هللا تعالی عنہ) (رضئ narrated that I went to Ummul Momineen Aisha هللا تعالی عنہا) (رضئ and she was standing praying and the people, too, were standing (praying). So, I said, what is the matter with the people? She beckoned with her head towards the sky. I said, (is there) a sign? She nodded intending to say, Yes. Sahih al-bukhari Vol 2, Bk 22, Hadith # 014 ح د ث ن ا إ س م اع يل ق ال ح د ث ن ي م ال ك ع ن ه ش ام ع ن أ ب يه ع ن ع ائ ش ة رضى هللا عنها ز و ج الن ب ي صلى هللا عليه وسلم أ ن ه ا ق ال ت ص ل ى ر س ول للا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ف ي ب ي ت ه و ه و ش اك ج ال س ا و ص ل ى و ر اء ه ق و م ق ي ام ا ف أ ش ار إ ل ي ه م أ ن اج ل س وا ف ل م ا ان ص ر ف ق ا ل " إ ن م ا ج ع ل اإل م ام ل ي ؤ ت م ب ه ف إ ذ ا ر ك ع ف ار ك ع وا و إ ذ ا ر ف ع ف ار ف ع وا ". صلى هللا عليه و آله ( Allah narrated that the Apostle of (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) Ummul Momineen Aisha standing, during his illness prayed in his house sitting, whereas some people followed him (وسلم but the Prophet هللا عليه و آله وسلم) (صلى beckoned them to sit down. On completion of the prayer he said, the Imam is to be followed. So, bow when he bows, and raise your head when he raises his head. 8
