Lesson 6A: Zharf Beginners Arabic 1 أقسام ألإ ع رأ ب (revision) Cases of i rab سما ء لأ ل ثلأت حالإت : ألر فع وألن صب و ألجر (عل أمة) each with its special sign,(حالإت ألإعرأب) can have three cases of I rab (أسم) A noun ألجر Jarr ألنص ب Nasb ألرف ع Raf ألحالة state: the ألعلأمة : sign the most common ألبيت ت ألبي ألبيت Example ألظ رف Adverb Zharf : The zharf ( ألظرف ) adverb tells us where or when something is or happens. ) أسم ( ism The zharf is an in the state of nasb ( من صوب ), the sign of which is usually fatha it can be mabni in a state of nasb It is of of two types: Zharf almakan رف كا ن ظ ألم indicating a place, like أمام (in front of) Zharf almakan is always mudaf, i.e. it is followed by a mudaf ileihi. Example: أ مام ألبيت in front of the house Zharf alzaman رف ما ن ظ ألز indicating time, like: قب ل (before) Zharf alzaman is somtimes mudaf, like: قب ل طلوع ألشم س (before the rising of the sun), and sometimes not, e.g. أليو م today Excercise 1a: Zharf makan 1. م Lesson 6B: Quasisentences Shibh aljumla شبه الجكلة Beginners Arabic 1 ش ب ه الج م ل ة Quasisentence Shibh aljumlah : Zharf and Jarr wa majrur are called quasi sentences shibh aljumlah, as they are not real sentences, but need to be placed within the context of the surrouning sentencee, e.g. appending them o to a fi l : o a khabar: o or an ism : Where they are appended depends on their meaning in the sentence. As a rule of the thumb, they are in most cases appended to something that expresses action.
